| OVERVIEW: The membership of Sempervirens Fund consists of thousands of individuals worldwide who care about protecting redwood lands and making them available for public enjoyment. These members make tax-deductible donations to Sempervirens Fund, which uses the money to buy threatened redwood lands. Together with the State of California, Sempervirens Fund has identified thousands of acres of unprotected lands within the proposed expansion boundaries of Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Butano State Park, Castle Rock State Park and Portola Redwood State Park. As we are able to acquire these lands, we transfer them to the parks system for public recreational access and permanent stewardship. | |
Focused: We are dedicated to preserving the forest ecology of the majestic coast redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens. And we focus all our resources on just a single "bio-region": the Santa Cruz Mountains, immediately adjacent to the San Francisco Bay Area population centers. Pragmatic: We save land the old fashioned way. We buy it. Then we transfer the land to parks departments to be integrated into existing parks and to insure permanent public access. We also work to establish conservation easements and trail linkages between parks and coastal marine preserves. Private: As a private, independent land conservancy, Sempervirens Fund can act quickly and decisively to save redwood lands, in a way that no bureaucratically hampered public agency could possibly do. Sempervirens Fund is governed by the authority of its Board of Directors. Non Profit: As a non-profit 501(c)(3), donations to the organization are tax-deductible as allowed by law, with all contributions going to support our mission. Proactive, Creative: We are constantly seeking significant opportunities for preserving redwood lands, before the opportunities are lost. We often spend years working with property owners to seek creative means for cultivating a 'win-win' context for conservation. Efficient, Collaborative: We have a full-time staff assisteded by dedicated part-timers and volunteers. To succeed in meeting the broader challenges associated with land conservation, we have established close working collaborations with several other organizations that add their special expertise in regional forest protection.
Member-Supported: More than 90% of our conservation funds are contributed by individual member-donors. Our members come from every state in the U.S. and overseas. Each new Sempervirens Fund membership makes a real difference in preserving redwood lands. |
